Hell Vs Heaven

A man is born alone and dies alone; and he experiences the good and bad consequences of his karma alone; and he goes alone to hell or the Supreme abode. -Chanakya Every person born on this earth has to die one day.

According to Chanakya, a man is great by deeds, not by birth. He says, as long as your body is healthy and under control and death is distant, try to save your soul; when death is imminent what can you do?

In order to keep the soul healthy one should indulge in good deeds and one should not trouble others. He says, once a person losses his health he cannot do anything and after death only a person's deeds are remembered. Hence, once should always do good deeds and serve other people.

The Karma or work of a man is remembered long after he is dead. Our work brings us recognition. History is filled with stories of great men and their great work.

KNOW YOUR KARMA: According to Chanakya, those who accomplish great deeds etch their names in history. He said, a man should work for the development and progress of his country and its people. These deeds can only be done when the man is fit physically and mentally.

A healthy mind resides in a healthy body and only a healthy mind can think about the welfare of the country. Chanakya has advised people against indulging in selfish acts. According to him, a man should never hurt or trouble anyone for personal gains. He said a person who troubles others and indulges in immoral acts loses the sanctity of his soul. Hence, in order to save our soul from the evils of immorality each person should control their mind and take care of his health for the greater good of all.

Good Vs Bad

According to Chanakya, as gold is tested in four ways by
  1. rubbing,
  2. cutting,
  3. heating and
  4. beating
So a man should be tested by these four things:
  1. his renunciation,
  2. his conduct,
  3. his qualities and
  4. his actions.
Chanakya says as the value of gold is decided after it goes through all the tests, similarly, qualities, ability to sacrifice, karma and renunciation decides the value of man. A person should not expect anything in return when he sacrifices for someone. A person like this is a good

Burns Without Fire

A wife and girl friend hold an important position in a man's life. When a man falls in love with a woman he cannot even think about a life without her and if they get separated he becomes hopeless in life. According to Acharya Chanakya, a good man burns without fire in six conditions. He said,
  1. separation from the wife,
  2. disgrace from one’s own people, and

  4. service to a wicked king,
  5. poverty, and a

Similarly, if a man is insulted by his own people he gets hurt and suffers. Also if a good man serves a wicked king he suffers throughout his life.

Well Wisher

Many people would try to interefere in your life and advice you. These may be your family members or friends. But, you cannot rely on all of them. People may have many well-wishers but there would be only a few whom you can trust. According to Chanakya, a true well-wisher does not forsake us in
  1. time of need,
  2. misfortune,
  3. famine,
  4. war,
  5. in a king's court, or
  6. at the crematorium (smasana).
These are the six situations where a person's honesty and loyalty towards you is tested. He also has also said that a false friend and living in a house with a serpent mean nothing but death.

According to him, following qualities of the denizens of hell may characterize men on earth;
  1. extreme wrath,
  2. harsh speech,
  3. enmity with one's relations,
  4. the company with the base, and

One should give up the company of devils, demons and nondevotees and should always associate with devotees and saintly persons. One should always act piously, thinking that this life is temporary, and not be attached to temporary happiness and distress.
